Glasnevin Extension

Location : Glasnevin, Dublin
Status: In progress – construction 2020

This semi-detached two storey house was unique as it was merely a single room deep on plan. With dual aspect rooms including views of both the front and back gardens, the scope to expand and meet the needs of the client’s family were limited.

Given its northerly orientation, the proposal to extend at ground level to the rear required a creative approach in order to capture natural light. This challenge drove the design approach, and the sculpted form and profiled roof, rising to catch sunlight and dropping to limit shadow casting, was the result. The roofscape is expressed internally, creating interesting volumes of space within which the new living, dining and kitchen areas are located.
