This interesting project retained and reconfigured an existing 1970’s office building to create new creative and restorative spaces in the city. The scheme houses studios and meeting spaces for artists and creative professionals at first floor level. These facilities are then complimented by an art gallery space at ground floor level with frontage onto the pedestrian approach to the building. A restorative center, including a large yoga and meditative studio with supporting shower and changing facilities, becomes the primary accommodation at ground floor level. Careful consideration was given to light and materials to foster a serene atmosphere. It is an interesting test case for working with existing building stock to create community focused spaces and facilities.
