Troubles Peace Memorial

Location: Northern Ireland

Status: Design Proposal

This design was in response to a conceptual proposal to build a 'peace memorial' for the conflict in Northern Ireland.  The brief called for a monument/memorial, exhibition rooms, a museum and a space for contemplation.

The proposed memorial has a single metal post for each victim of the troubles, arranged chronologically in the landscape, creating dense clusters and more sparse areas, around which you can walk - the posts had no markings or means of identification.

This monument is positioned alongside a linear series of exhibition rooms, and sited within a forest of trees.  This setting allows the visitor to move freely between internal and external spaces, between built and natural elements, whilst having areas to reflect and contemplate along the journey.
