Located in Clontarf, Dublin 3, this semi-detached two storey red brick house required remodelling and extension at ground floor level.  The two main challenges presented were:

- to connect the house to its extensive rear garden and bridge the 1 meter level difference between them.

-  to creatively introduce natural light into the predominantly north facing rear rooms.

The proposed extension is stepped over a number of levels to gradually bring the occupants down to garden level, and is pinwheeled around a central courtyard that acts as a light-well for the new and existing rooms.  The palette of materials is simple, mirroring those used on the original house, brick and stone, but detailed in a contemporary way to give the extension a modern expression.
